South Haven Vacations

As one of the best hideaways in the state of Michigan, South Haven is becoming an increasingly popular vacation destination for individuals seeking solitude and rejuvenation away from their hectic daily lives. With its miles of beaches along Lake Michigan and scenic beauty, it is the perfect retreat for anyone who wants to kick back and feel the cool breeze off this gorgeous lake. Make your way to South Haven for a long weekend or an entire week, and youll never want to leave the serenity that surrounds you.

Upon arrival in South Haven, you may notice that most of the citys activities center around the water activities of Lake Michigan. When you are ready to take advantage of all the lake has to offer, head over to Black River harbor, which is an excellent launching point for boating and enjoying the sandy beaches and warm summer days. Here, you can get your motorboat or sailboat rental on the water for a leisurely cruise around the lake or for a more active adventure such as waterskiing or tubing in the refreshing water.

After spending the morning or afternoon on the water, stop by one of the popular beaches or parks so the kids can swim or play in the sand. You can soak up the sun at any of the numerous beaches in the area, however two that are family-friendly and perfect for a relaxing afternoon are North Beach and South Beach. Spend a few hours or a whole day at either of these public beaches, which are stocked with concessions, lifeguards, restrooms, and volleyball courts, and enjoy some of the best swimming and beach conditions that Lake Michigan has to offer.

If the thought of reeling in a big one causes your heart to flutter with excitement, then a fishing charter should be on your itinerary when you visit South Haven. With some of the best Great Lakes fishing in this area, you can catch the salmon, perch, or trout of a lifetime. If viewing these fine species up close and watching them interact with the other elements of their surroundings is your idea of a real adventure, then make your way to Sunset Divers for a scuba diving excursion. Diving to the depths of Lake Michigan can be one of the most memorable and exciting experiences of your restful South Haven vacation.

While the lake is the main attraction for outdoor activities, there are other options available to keep you occupied for the duration of your trip. Three local and numerous other scenic courses are a short drive from South Haven accommodations, giving every duffer the opportunity to work on their game while enjoying the majestic beauty of this area.

The Kal-Haven trail is great for hiking and biking around some of the most scenic areas of South Haven. Wintertime guests can cross-country ski here, or head over to one of the nearby resorts for skiing and snowboarding. Winter also brings activities on Lake Michigan and the surrounding area, including ice fishing, snowmobiling, and ice skating so come prepared for the snow and the cold.

Whether you visit South Haven during the spring, summer, or fall, you are bound to stumble on some fresh and delicious seasonal produce. While the spring and the fall bring a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, summer is the prime time to visit since the blueberry capital of the world comes alive during this season. Take a trip to one of the many farms in the area so you can pick your own fresh fruits, then head over to the annual Blueberry Festival (held every August) for some of the tastiest high-blush blueberries.

When choosing accommodations for your getaway to South Haven, it is important to consider what will allow you the easiest access to the activities you plan to pursue. If you want to spend most of your time at the beach, a South Haven vacation rental that is ideally situated on the waterfront will save you time and energy since you simply need to walk out the back door to begin your day, rather than packing up the kids and the car and trying to think of everything you will need. If you forget something or the kids get hungry, all you need to do is take the short walk back to the house and your day can continue without missing a beat.

If solitude and privacy, with convenience to the lake and other attractions of the city, is what you are looking for, try a charming cottage with a private wooded yard that is located a few blocks from the beach. You can still walk to the beach and take in the beauty of Lake Michigan, but you are also secluded from the noise and bustle of the city. Relax on the deck, surrounded by towering trees, and listen to the birds as you enjoy a mid-afternoon sandwich or a delicious piece of salmon that you have grilled on the barbeque that sits nearby.
