E!'s New Reality Show "Kill Reality"

The E! channel recently debuted their new reality show entitled "Kill Reality".So what does this show have to do with horror in general? Well interestingly enough, the show plays out like MTVs "The Real World".But unlike "The Real World" where the housemates are assigned to a job like working on a boat or working at a bar,in "Kill Reality" the housemates will be working together on a real life independent horror film entitled "The Scorned".The film is being produced by Creative Light Entertainment and will star many faces you may recognize from other reality shows such as "The Real World", and "The Apprentice".

The cast of the series and the film includes Jenna Lewis(Survivor:Borneo,Survivor:All-Stars), Steven Hill(The Real World:Las Vegas),Tonya Cooley(The Real World:Chicago),Jonny Fairplay(Survivor:Pearl Islands),Reichen Lehmkuhl(The Amazing Race 4),Trishelle Cannatella(The Real World:Las Vegas,The Surreal Life),Trish Schneider(The Bachelor 5),Stacie J.Upchurch(The Apprentice 2),Bob Guiney(The Bachelor 3),Ethan Zohn(Survivor:Africa,Survivor:All-Stars),Jenna Morasca(Survivor:Amazon,Survivor:All-Stars),and Toni Ferrari(Love Cruise,Paradise Hotel).

The series which will be formatted in a weekly hour long episode every Monday night, will document the housemates experiences as they live together in the house and work together on the film.

In case you're wondering what "The Scorned" is about,it involves a group of twentysomething couples who shack up together in a creepy abandoned beach house where odd and mysterious events begin to take place. When one of them winds up dead, they look to the advice of a spiritualist who believes the ghost of a jilted lover is exacting revenge on her former philandering fianc. Can they solve the mystery before she strikes again? No word yet on whether this movie will be serious of tone,or a horror comedy along the lines of "Scary Movie".Or if it will hit theaters, premier on cable,or debut on the E! channel.

We'll most likely find that out soon enough. While the idea of having a reality show tie in with the shooting of a real life horror film is quite interesting and in fact,I think this is the first time since "Project Greenlight:Season 3" that this has ever been done before when it relates to a horror movie. But "PJG" focused more on the filmmaker and was basically about following a person whos getting their first crack at the big time by directing a major motion picture. However, one has to wonder about the backfire probabilities of a series like "Kill Reality".

Should the viewing public turn off to these personalities due to their behavior on this show,it could really hurt the films box office, should they be planning a theatrical release for it.I think for those of us who are small followers of reality tv,we already know that a few of these people aren't exactly high on the average americans likeability list due to their exploits on past reality television shows.Trishelle and Toni being two of them. You don't even need to watch any of these reality shows to know about the one or two cast members who get labeled as the troublemakers or jerks of the scene.Since we always wind up hearing about them from a friend, reading about their exploits in a magazine,or seeing them on one of those "Most hated reality tv personalities" specials.

On the other hand, with a cast like this, you need as much pre-exposure for the film as you can get.Lets face it tossing anyone of these people names out there is not going to get anyone flocking to theaters to see a movie with them in it.

Can these 12 volatile personalities co-exist in a house together under the pressure of being watched constantly by the cameras as well as deal with the pressure of shooting an actual horror film? Will this film be any good at all? Will Jonny Fairplay claim his grandma died again just to get out of a rough day of shooting similar to the stunt he pulled on "Survivor"? You'll just have to tune in to find out."Kill Reality" airs Monday nights at 10pm est. on the E! Channel.
