It is also a good idea to grease any perches, poles or platforms around the bluebird house as this makes it harder for larger birds to get a grip and stake out the bluebird home.

Although attracting blue birds with houses or boxes can be a bit challenging (it is because they are so fussy about their habitat!) it is a lot easier to attract them with food. In a way, there is no such thing as bluebird food as they enjoy nibbling on so many things that are also the favorites of other birds. However keep the following in plentiful supply: peanuts, pecans, baked apples, raisins, white bread, suet, corn bread, pie crust, doughnuts and cottage cheese.
