Getting a New Dog

Getting a new dog is a great joy for anyone. They bring to the family unconditional love and a zest for life. In fact, many grow to be as close as any other family member. Its important to remember, however, that getting a new dog is a huge responsibility. Any good dog owner will take the proper steps to ensure that their new dog will live a long, happy life.

Coming home is the most exciting and challenging part of getting a new dog. Both the dog and you are adapting to a new environment, and there is much work to be done. Make sure your new baby has a warm, dry place to sleep and play. There are a wide assortment of beds and toys to choose from in making your dogs personal space. Consider getting some pee pads even if your dog is an adult rescue. In a new place some dogs like to mark things, so its best to be prepared.

Remember to cover the basic safety essentials like immunizations, ID tags or licenses. Its very important to get your dog spayed or neutered as soon as possible to avoid making more puppies or other unwanted behavior. Many states and cities require some form of license to own a dog, so be sure youre compliant with all laws. Also, implantable microchips are now available to help if your dog gets lost.
