Replacement Screen Windows

Screen windows serve the purpose of filtering the air that gets into your homes. As such, screen windows usually get dirty easily because of the dust particles that accumulate on its panels. These types of windows require regular cleaning as to preserve its purpose and maintain its functionality. There are also some variations of screen windows, which includes a recent innovation of a combination of storm and screen windows. However, using this type of window also requires periodical cleaning as with other windows that use screens.

Cleaning combination storm and screen windows

In cleaning a combination of storm and screen windows, it is a good idea to keep in mind that you have to remove all the sashes, clean the frames and lubricate the tracks on a regular basis so that these windows can function well. Preparing to clean these windows will entail preparing various cleaning materials that can make your job easier. These materials include a drop cloth, toothpicks or an ice pick, a work surface, other cleaning cloths, a vacuum cleaner, a fine steel wool, a sponge or paintbrush, spray lubricant, water, detergent and glass cleaners.

Once all you materials are available, you will need to place the drop cloth on the area where you want to work to avoid dirtying your floor. It is also a good idea to put a small table covered by a towel where you work, this table provides you with a place to put your windows when you have removed them from their cases. Once you have set up your work area, you can now remove the sashes of your windows (screen and storm windows) by removing the tacks or screws that hold them in place.

The next step that you will have to do is to clean the tracks or cases of the windows by using your vacuum, toothpicks and your cleaning cloths. After doing this, you can now clean the screen and the storm window on top of the table, you can do this using a damp cloth and you can remove oxidation or rusting using your fine steel wool. Before re-installing the windows, you will need to lubricate the tracks of the windows to further improve functionality. When you have done all these steps, you are now ready to re-install the windows.
